Mission and Goals
Mission Statement
The mission of the UNH Center on Adolescence is to foster alliances that
benefit youth and to provide research capacity, education, and state-of-the-art
information that support the health and well-being of adolescents in New
Hampshire.
Goals
- Improve the health, competence, connectedness, and contributions of all New Hampshire youth.
- Encourage family, school, community, state, and corporate involvement in supporting adolescent health and well-being.
- Identify and address the particular social, educational, political, and economic barriers to, and opportunities for, supporting youth in NH.
- Enhance knowledge and skills of those working for and with youth and their families.
- Provide valid, theory and research-based information about adolescents and best practices for addressing their needs.
- Create linkages among professionals, programs, and agencies working for and with adolescents and their families.
Guiding Principles
- Adolescents represent the intellectual, educational, social, and economic future of our state and are worth our investment of time, energy, and money.
- Families and communities are essential for supporting adolescent health and well-being.
- It is important to engage youth in health- and competence-enhancing behaviors as well as to work to reduce those that are risky and health compromising.
- Envisioning all adolescents as partners benefits youth and improves our initiatives.
- Collaboration maximizes the likelihood of producing effective strategies to benefit adolescents and their families.
